2016 Taoyuan Land Art Festival

Mayor Cheng: Three themes and four values are used to create Taoyuan’s local art brands.

After reviewing the “2016 Taoyuan Land Art Festival Project Report” given by the Department of Cultural Affairs when chairing the city governance meeting on August 17th, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan expressed that the Taoyuan Land Art Festival has the potential to become a tourist attraction with its three themes of “local awakening,” “community vitality,” and “art integration” and four values of “community participation,” “local features,” “environmental sustainability,” and “circular economy.” The biennial Land Art Festival is organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs and supported by the entire Taoyuan City Government. Mayor Cheng is confident that the 2016 festival will be able to integrate community development, provide an extensive and novel perspective of local values, and enhance tourism potential in the Taoyuan area. Once the “Land Art Festival” is over, the exhibits may also be shown in the Agriculture Expo to sustain these artworks. Mayor Cheng asked all Taoyuan City Government departments and offices to establish “Land Art Festival” as a local brand to attract more tourists.

The Mayor also instructed all agencies to support the “Land Art Festival” to ensure its success. These tasks include: Department of Tourism to add event contents by referring to the scheduling, locations, and tour activities; the Department of Civil Affairs shall be in charge of event receptions and to provide friendly neighborhood and community services; the Department of Youth Affairs may also invite the groups from colleges and universities to participate in the event and include bicycle coming-of-age events in tertiary educational institutions so that youths can enjoy the sights along the way as they cycle past and enjoy the beautiful land art exhibits.

For event promotion, the Department of Public Information and Department of Cultural Affairs shall plan preliminary marketing activities and focus on introducing the artists and their artworks. The Department of Cultural Affairs as well as Bade and Xinwu district offices have been charged with contacting village chiefs to hold introductory seminars to promote the event. The Department of Education may arrange group tours that may be used as a reference for teachers planning future outdoor school trips. Teachers and students from design schools in Ming Chuan University and Chung Yuan Christian University can also be invited to the event to provide creative inspirations. Department of Urban Development may also invite the groups such as district planners, architecture associations, and interior design associations to observe the festival to improve future community development efforts. Other public agencies that may be involved, including the Department of Economic Development, Department of Social Welfare, and Department of Labor. Trade associations, professional technical groups, and non-government organizations (NGOs) may also be invited to the event.
