Visiting the French Delegate of the Airbus Group - Mayor Cheng: Taiwan’s machine tool and accessory manufacturing industry will be strong enough to support the development of the aerospace industry

When receiving Pierre Lanore, vice president of the Airbus Group in Northeast Asia, in the afternoon of July 11th at the Taoyuan City Hall, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan expressed that the Airbus Group has an extensive business portfolio that included aircraft manufacturing, aerospace parts and components, repairs, and satellite systems. Taiwan also has a strong machine tool and accessory industry capable of supporting the development of the aerospace industry and would be an excellent base for aircraft repairs. Spaces for the aerospace industry would also be reserved in the industrial zone of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis Projects. All international corporations are welcome to direct their investments to Taiwan.

Mayor Cheng mentioned that he had led a Taoyuan City Government delegate in a European tour in June and met with representatives of the Airbus Group during the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) tendering banquet. Mayor Cheng described that he was very impressed with the comprehensive range of services offered by the Airbus Group. Commuter volume in Taoyuan International Airport reached 38 million individuals in 2015. This figure is expected to reach 40 million in 2016. Most of the flights from Taoyuan tended to be regional flights to destinations in Southeast Asia and mainland China. As regional markets become increasingly prosperous, the Taiwan market for Airbus is very likely to grow continuously.

Vice President Pierre Lanore expressed that Airbus has always maintained a long-term and positive working relationship with Taiwan and partnered with airline companies from various countries. The Group also interacted with Taiwan on many occasions for aerospace parts and components, repairs and maintenance, and other industrial sectors, and therefore looks forward to building upon this long-term partnership.

Attendants to this meeting include Director-General Chu Sung-Wei of the Department of Economic Development and vice president Hsieh Huai-Hui of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis Co., Ltd.
