Visiting the Fenox Venture Capital and Tronxin Accelerator - Mayor Cheng: Creative competitions that encourage global visions help improve understanding of creative trends around the world
Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan headed off to the Department of Youth Affairs in the morning of July 30th in order to receive Anis Uzzaman, co-founder and CEO of Fenox Venture Capital, and his team, as well as Steve Hsu Chu-Hsien, General Manager of Tronxin Accelerator. Mayor Cheng expressed that the Taoyuan City Government will be working with the Fenox Venture Capital team to organize the “2017 Fenox Startup World Cup Elite Preliminaries for the Chinese Speaking Area.” The event will attract startup professionals in Taiwan and help promote youth entrepreneurship. The city government will provide fully support to help people gain a global vision needed to recognize global trends.
Mayor Cheng believe factors for success in innovation include having the courage to dream and adventure as well as ambition. Taoyuan is a young city and is home to 17 colleges and universities that include those specializes in technological applications, sciences, and engineering such as National Central University, Chung Yuan Christian University, and Yuan Ze University. These elements will greatly support innovation and the setup of creative industries.
Mayor Cheng said that the new government has made plans to promote the “Asia Silicon Valley Project” in Taoyuan. Major themes include “innovation” and “youth entrepreneurship.” Creative ideas in software, network, and “industry 4.0” will augment industrial competitiveness to generate new advantages. The National Development Council (NDC) is also implementing 2 development projects, namely “innovative startups” and “industrial innovation,” and provided funding for both of them. Government support will greatly improve the development of creativity.
Anis Uzzaman, co-founder and CEO of Fenox Venture Capital, expressed that various countries have demonstrated enthusiasm when it comes to creative industries and venture capital. To encourage innovation, Fenox Venture Capital is working with multiple countries to host the Fenox Startup World Cup at different locations around the world to select the best startups. Current arrangements have planned preliminaries for the World Cup including: Jakarta, Indonesia on August 23rd; Tokyo, Japan on September 21st; and South Africa on September 23rd. All creative talents from around the world are welcome to participate in this great event. The ability to partner up with Taoyuan will also improve event visibility and encourage the development of creative industries.
Director-general Chen Chia-chun of the Department of Youth Affairs expressed that the “2017 Fenox Startup World Cup Elite Preliminaries for the Chinese Speaking World” will be held in Taoyuan City. A press conference has been arranged in September and the date for the actual event has been scheduled on December 9th 2016. Teams that made it through the preliminaries will be able to head to San Francisco for the finals on March 24th 2017. Winning teams will be awarded a US$ 1 million investment fund, providing them with an opportunity and platform to realize their creative dreams.
