Mandarin Airlines’ maiden flight from Taipei to Seoul - Mayor Cheng: Celebrating a new flight route that promotes tourism and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Korea

While attending the ceremony celebrating “Mandarin Airlines’ maiden flight from Taipei to Seoul” at Terminal 1 of Taoyuan International Airport in the morning on June 1st, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan expressed that the growing diversity of visitors and travelers from Japan and Korea who have arrived at Taiwan. The new flight route from Taipei (Taoyuan Airport) to Seoul offered by Mandarin Airlines would establish a close tie between Taoyuan International Airport and Incheon International Airport at Seoul to promote tourism and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Korea.

Mayor Cheng then described various statistics of Taoyuan International Airport. The Airport receives about 30 million travelers every year and this figure is expected to increase to 50 million individuals once Terminal 3 and Runway 3 are completed, helping to vastly increase the airport’s economic benefits. The Taoyuan City Government will continue to work with Taoyuan International Airport to ensure efficient scheduling and timely completion of all construction work.

Mayor Cheng mentioned more and more tourists arriving at Taiwan come from Northeast Asian countries such as Japan and Korea as well as Southeast Asia and Mainland China. Visitors include those participating in tour groups, backpackers, as well as business travelers. In response, services offered by Taoyuan International Airport have become more and more diverse. The diversity of tourist origins and touring styles also necessitated new directions of development of Taiwan’s tourism industry. The city government will commit itself to tourism to promote the value of tourism in Taiwan.
