Mayor Cheng: Taoyuan is the perfect place for developing the design industry. Professional designers welcome to build the fantastic Taoyuan Agriculture Expo

When attending the “2nd Member Assembly of the 13th Association of Interior Design & Decoration” held on March 25th, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan described Taoyuan as the best place for design-related industries as the city achieved population growth and is home to a comprehensive supply chain as well as 10 tertiary educational institutions offering design majors. Taoyuan would also be part of the Asia Silicon Valley Project to establish design centers and the upcoming Taoyuan Agriculture Expo and will establish measures for training local designers to highlight cultural features and design potential of the city of Taoyuan.

Mayor Cheng expressed that “interior design” is regarded as a cultural and creative industry stipulated within the Law for the Development of the Cultural and Creative Industries. A key policy in Taiwan is the development of such industries. Taoyuan City exhibited the highest population growth in Taiwan and is home to a comprehensive industrial supply chain. Of the 17 colleges and universities in the city, nearly 10 offer design-related majors. This makes Taoyuan the perfect place to develop design-related industries. The future “Asia Silicon Valley Project” of the new government also includes establishment of design centers in Taoyuan to train more local designers, promote better integration between the industry and design, and provide a larger stage for Taoyuan’s design potential.


Mayor Cheng mentioned that the “Tao-Ding Interior Design Award” hosted in the Taoyuan Arts Center this year encouraged exchange between design companies, exhibited a diverse selection of the latest design concepts, and energy conservation and environmentally friendly features, allowing fellow citizens to witness the potential of the design industry in Taoyuan. Mayor Cheng hopes to keep hosting this event, accumulate traditions, and allow designers to gain better support through participating in these competitions.

Mayor Cheng also pointed out that 2016 Taiwan Lantern Festival combined both public and private efforts to successfully exhibit the “Dreams of technological Industries” and “Charms of Diverse Culture.” Trial runs for the Taoyuan Agriculture Expo would be initiated in 2017 and the Expo would be formally opened in 2018. Members of the Association of Interior Design & Decoration will participate in exhibit designs to integrate local culture, materials, and unique furnishings of agricultural architecture to provide a comprehensive display of Taoyuan City.

Mayor Cheng also highlighted concept architecture for agricultural villages, energy saving green buildings, optoelectronic designs, and electric vehicle designs that will be exhibited during the Agriculture Expo. The Expo will also integrate local landscaping and ponds to create a “Taoyuan Exposition” that brings out the best of the local features. Mayor Cheng expects that the Taoyuan Agriculture Expo will just be as fantastic as the Taiwan Lantern Festival, and is committed to making it the best Agriculture Expo throughout Taiwan.
