Inauguration of Taoyuan youth commander.

Mayor Cheng: In order to make Taoyuan the first choice of young business owner, youth venturing must become an upward trend in Taoyuan.

When attending the Inauguration Press Conference for the Taoyuan youth commander, organized by the Department of Youth Affairs of Taoyuan City Government, on March 13th, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan announced that youth entrepreneur headquarter now officially opened to the public and invited youths who are interested in starting their own business to register. They could lower down the entrepreneurial requirement by utilizing resources of the headquarter. Also, through experience sharing and inheriting from senior entrepreneur, youths could obtain higher chance to succeed.

Mayor Cheng addressed that Taoyuan youth commander covered 300 ping in total area and located at third floor of department of Youth Affairs. It was built with 4 incubation classrooms and would provide low rent office area for 3,500NTD/month to selected start-up team to use. It would also provide common space, computers, printers and other equipment to members to pay for use. Members only needed to pay 500NTD for membership, and they could bring their own computer and necessary equipment to utilize those resources without any burden. In addition, Taoyuan youth commander would invite senior entrepreneurs to be on site to effectively assist youth, who is seeking to start their own business, to realize their plans and dreams. 

Mayor Cheng pointed out that the decreasing number of members in Junior Chamber, and fewer people who ran their own business, both of which showed that it was harder for youth entrepreneurs in Taiwan to start their business. Moreover, they needed the help of others. Cities around the world are starting to invest in youth entrepreneurship. Taoyuan, a city with the highest number of youths and extensive educational institutions, demonstrates a great potential in becoming the base of youth entrepreneurship in Taiwan.

Mayor Cheng also highlighted that there are 4 major tasks for the Department of Youth Affairs, including the Andong Youth Start-up Hub in the north, Xinming Youth Start-up Hub in the south, Youshih International Start-up Village, and Yong’an Youth Experience Learning Park. They will spare no efforts in encouraging youth entrepreneurship in Taoyuan, and transform the city into the hub of young business owners to start their business.

Mayor Cheng said that the establishment of the Taoyuan youth commander was only a beginning, and additional hubs such as the Andong Youth Start-up Hub in the north and Xinming Youth Start-up Hub in the south would be opened in this year. These two hubs will offer for youths studying in 17 educational institutions throughout Taoyuan City as well as young professionals. Utilizing the resources provided by these hubs, those who want to start their business could minimize their costs while acquiring the experiences of professionals and ultimately improve more chances to succeed.
