Checking out the Image Construction at the Entrance of the Yong’an Harbor. Mayor Cheng: To Integrate the Life Elements of Hakka Fishing Village to Elevate the Attractiveness of the Yong’an Harbor

Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan checked out the image construction at the entrance of the Yong’an Harbor on March 15th and expressed that the city government would integrate the life elements of the Hakka fishing village with the image construction of the whole environment of the fishing port, which included reconstruction of the image of the entrance of the Sea Worship Plaza, painting of the fishing tools and storage, arrangement of the circulation in the tourist fishing market and accessibility space construction since Yong’an Harbor in Xingwu was the only Hakka fishing port in Taiwan. The first stage of the construction was planned for the completion before June 30th at a cost of NT$14,380,000.

Mayor Cheng pointed out that Xinwu District was rich in fish and rice while the fishing villages in Yong’an and Dapo were tourist highlights for which local elements in Xingwu such as stacked stones, Taiwanese beach seine, sea worship would be added in the project for the living environment programming, design and construction of the Yong’an Hakka fishing villages to present the Hakka life aspects in Xingwu through these colorful paintings, which would make the fishing port different upon arrival.

Mayor Cheng said the first stage of the construction was planned for the completion at the end of June. In the past there was fishing culture of “go fishing with the blowing of the conch” in the Yong’an Harbor. Moreover, in addition to the stacked stones in Penghu, such construction could be seen only in Xingwu District. Therefore, fishing culture such as conch, Taiwanese beach seine and stacked stones would be integrated in the second stage of the construction in which a symbol of conch would be set where there would be audio- visual room for the tourists to take a look and the image of the stacked stones would be added for the sunset of Yong’an. The sidewalk of Bensha Bridge would be completed later on for the tourists to enjoy the sunset and the sea, which would elevate the attractiveness of the Yong’an Harbor and attract them to visit this fishing port full of humanism.

Mayor Cheng mentioned that with the subsidy of the Department of Agriculture, Zhongli Fishermen’s Association was able to build new parking lots in the north of the Yong’an Harbor, which totals up to 250 spaces. Therefore, it was convenient for the tourists to park their cars there on holidays and go on the Sea View Bridge to the tourist fishing market. The Department of Agriculture, Taoyuan would coordinate with the Central Government and the local fishermen’s association to complete constructions of the other projects of the Yong’an Harbor, related to the Fisheries Agency of the Council of Agriculture, which included the reclaimed land in the north shore, fishery building and fishermen’s activity center etc.
