Press Conference for Introducing the Interactive Installations of the New Utopia Artistic Lantern Area. Mayor Cheng: 3 Entrance Images and 8 Installation Artworks - Fun by Day and Charming by Night
While attending the “press conference introducing the interactive installation artworks of the New Utopia artistic lantern area” held at Qingtang Park on February 25th, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan expressed that the Water Theater of New Utopia Area at Taiwan Lantern Festival 2016 and its daily “Joyful Tour of Taoyuan” performances as well as the integration of ecological and cultural elements in Qingtang Park created a rich and aesthetic texture in the overall designs. A total of 3 entrance images and 8 installation artworks such as the Frog Prince and “Animal’s Fantasy World” designed by Master Hung Yi provided a visiting experience that is fun during the day and charming during the night, making Qingtang Park a leading attraction for many tourists.
Mayor Cheng described Qingtang Park as an ecological park capable of functioning as a detention basin. The area provided minimum illumination to allow its aquatic plants and fishes to thrive and live at peace. Most lantern exhibits established in other areas were constructed by NGOs or corporate sponsorships. Lanterns of the New Utopia Area, however, were constructed by professional artists. They were invited to integrate ecological and cultural elements in order to create the 3 major entrance images and setup 8 interactive installation artworks on the grassy slopes of Qingtang Park. The results offered daytime visitors a unique display of artistic themes.
Mayor Cheng pointed out that the objective of the New Utopia Area was to create a landscape, which a perfect world would look like. Artistic expressions were used in pursuit of freedom and beauty that went beyond the realities of life. Visitors of the New Utopia Area would feel as though they’ve entered a new and imaginative world of fantasy. The 3 entrance images of the New Utopia Area included the “New Utopia” created by lantern artwork Master Lin Jiann-Erl, “Giving Birth” made of composite materials that was designed by Taoyuan’s master straw weaver Wang Yu-Hsiang and Avant-garde designer Master Chang Chia-Lin, and “Four-Eyed Frog Prince”, created by local artist Master Lu Wenchung, which was a composition filled with features that children would love. These entrance images would be retained after the Lantern Festival as unique features and landmarks of Qingtang Park.
Mayor Cheng mentioned that the numerous artistic lantern exhibits in the New Utopia Area which included “Mamba Flower Dance” by Master Lin Shuen-long, “Dream Pond” by Master Tu Wei-Cheng, “House of the Future” which was jointly designed by Master Chen Kai-Huang and Master Huang I, as well as the straw-constructed “Tortoise of Auspicious” jointly built by Master Chiang Ming-Chun and Bali Community.
