Taoyuan City Mayor, Cheng Wen-Tsan, was greeting the vice president of Oxford University, Rick Rawlins, at city hall and said “Taoyuan is the major industrial manufacturing base in Taiwan. Also, when Taiwanese companies entering EU market, many of them choose to set up their bases at London. United Kingdom is a historical democratic country with very prosperous economy. Municipal construction of London is based on the strategy of smart city and sustainable development. It is worth for Asian countries to learn.”

“Population of United Kingdom is about 60 millions which is 1% of population of the whole world. However, cultural and creative industry in United Kingdom is 18% of the world. There are 23 millions people in Taiwan, that is also 1% of the total population of Chinese. Cultural and creative industry in Taiwan should learn from United Kingdom to raise the influence in Chinese world,” indicated Mayor Cheng.

“Taiwan is the hub of Asia with very significant geography location, and is also a very vital and passionate island. Moreover, Taiwan embraces democracy, and possesses many creative ideas and industries. Taiwan has very good friendship with United Kingdom. In the future, we welcome more and more Taiwanese students come to Oxford University to study, and bring western technology back to Taiwan. This also can keep and improve our bilateral interactivity,” addressed vice president Rawlins.
